TRY TEK Machine Works Company

TRY TEK Machine Works, Inc. was started in 1985 by Tom Yingling and Ed Kilburn after they successfully designed and prototyped the first 6” Robotic Lateral Tap Cutter used for reinstating laterals in relined pipe. The name of the company was derived from the initials of the founders:TRY for Thomas R. Yingling and TEK for Thomas Edward Kilburn.

Initially they operated in a garage as a part time company with limited machining equipment. In 1987 TRY TEK went into fulltime operation selling cutters, as well as producing parts and equipment for local companies. A 6,000 sq. ft. facility was purchased at 209-1/2 High St. Hanover, PA in 1987.

In 1989, TRY TEK was sold to Insituform East, Inc. of Landover, MD. Both Tom and Ed continued to manage the business which remained in Hanover. Under new ownership the company continued to grow primarily by making equipment for the pipe rehabilitation industry. Several years later Ed left TRY TEK, while Tom continued to manage the company.

TRY TEK continued improving and producing 6” - 15" cutters, along with water inversion units for the Insituform companies throughout the 1990’s. In 2000 the company started selling cutters to other pipe rehabilitation contractors. We continue to sell cutters and are once again selling water inversion units. We are also working on designing some exciting new products to be introduced in the near future.

TRY TEK was sold in 2006 to a York County, Pennsylvania company, Coupling Corporation of America, Inc. TRY TEK relocated the business 20 miles east, to Jacobus in 2006. We now share the 65,000 square feet of space with our new parent company.
